Sanuki Oden Project

A warm pot to gather around on a night in Kotohira.

Every month on the 22nd is “Oden Fufu Day.”

“Fufu” is the sound we make as we gently blow on a steaming-hot bite of oden.

Sanuki udon broth, locally made Konpira miso, local fish cakes, and seasonal vegetables. By bringing together the delicious flavors of Kotohira and ideas from everyone around the table, we are developing a new local specialty: Sanuki Oden.

The Sanuki Oden Project is not simply an event where guests are served a finished dish.

We dream up seasonal varieties of oden, experiment with different combinations of broth and ingredients, and search for drinks that pair well with each pot. Each member’s “What about this?” goes straight into the pot. As we eat and talk, we imagine the next bowl together at this monthly gathering.

Of course, you do not need to arrive with an idea.

“I would simply like to try Sanuki Oden” is already a wonderful way to take part in the project.

At the heart of the project are its leader, Kazuki Akiyoshi—better known as Akky—together with Hijiri, Chiezaemon, and Matsuo, Kotori’s Community Manager, who helped launch the project and is currently on parental leave.

There is no strict divide between organizers and guests. Everyone brings a little of what they are good at, or something they would like to try. That is how a gentle and welcoming world takes shape—one where even first-time visitors can naturally become part of the circle.

Whether you love cooking, are curious about local food culture, or want to try out a new idea, you are very welcome.

This gathering is also for anyone hoping to meet new people in Kotohira, as well as travelers who would like to share a table with local residents during their journey.

Our larger dream is to grow Sanuki Oden into a new food culture for Kagawa, following in the footsteps of Sanuki udon and honetsukidori, Kagawa’s signature bone-in chicken.

But the first step is simple.

Eat together, talk together, and gently blow—“fufu”—over a steaming bowl of oden.

For locals and travelers alike— Why not gather around a hot pot together at Kotori on the evening of the 22nd of every month?
